Mahindra Racing 2022 Formula E racer debuts new Born EV logo

Mahindra Racing has revealed its new race car for the upcoming 2022 Formula E season, which gets underway in January next year. The M7Electro carries Mahindra’s new Born EV logo, which has been revealed for the first time, along with a new all-red livery.

Mahindra Born EV logo revealed

The new logo appears to be an adapted version of Twin Peaks logo for Mahindra’s SUV range, and it will be used across the company’s Born EV portfolio. Mahindra plans to launch eight EVs by 2027. Four of these will be derived from the company’s range of petrol and diesel products. Then from 2025, Mahindra will launch four new SUVs that will be underpinned by a Born EV platform and designed for electrification from the ground up.

"The new Born EV logo is electric-in-motion, it feels like a force of red and silver energy passed by in high-speed. It reflects our focus and commitment to the electric revolution. By sporting the new identity, the race team has become the first of Mahindra companies to have its assets adorned with the new brand identity elements.” 

The new livery reiterates Mahindra’s ‘Race to Road’ programme. Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (M.A.D.E.) has been instrumental in creating the Born EV platform and a statement released by the team states it is “helping accelerate Mahindra’s global EV vision by bringing knowledge and technology from the sport to road vehicles in its ‘Race to Road’ technology programme.”

Mahindra Racing Formula E season 8 racer

Season 8 will be the last season with the Gen 2 cars before the Gen 3 era kicks off. The hardware is homologated (locked in spec) for next season, so Mahindra Racing will continue using the M7Electro. But the team can continue unlocking performance through software updates. Season 8 will also feature quite a few changes, including an all-new qualifying format. Power will also increase from 200kW to 220kW.

"We head into our eighth year of competition reinvigorated and working hand in hand to maximise our package with the fantastic partners we have; including ZF and Shell, whose technology forms key parts of our M7Electro,” said Dilbagh Gill, CEO and team principal, Mahindra Racing.

Oliver Rowland will join Alexander Sims for the new season. While this will be Sims’ season year with the Indian squad, Rowland comes onboard after previously driving for Nissan. Pre-season testing starts from November 29 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain.

Nick Heidfeld will step away from his previous position as Official Test and Reserve Driver, but retains his role as Special Advisor to Mahindra Racing. Jordan King, meanwhile, continues for a second year as Development Driver.

Formula E season 8 kicks off on January 28 with a double-header in Diriyah. The 16-race calendar will be the longest season in Formula E history.
