Mahindra Racing has confirmed that F2 racer Kush Maini will drive for the team in the upcoming Formula E Berlin Rookie Test, to be held on July 14.  Maini got his first taste of driving the new Formula E Gen 3 Evo car at the Rookie Free Practice session in Jeddah earlier this year. He topped that session with a fastest time of 1 minute and 17.184 seconds, outperforming the likes of 2023 F2 champion Theo Pourchaire, former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat and three-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick.

2025 has been a busy year of racing for Maini. His primary focus remains the F2 championship, where he scored a landmark win at the Monaco GP. He’s also working closely with the Alpine F1 team as their test and reserve driver, alongside his Formula E outings.

“The whole point of the Berlin Rookie Test is to encourage and nurture the next generation of potential Formula E stars, and Kush is definitely a talent to watch in that regard,” said Mahindra Racing CEO and team principal Frederic Bertrand. “We’ve been very impressed with his performance and attitude on every occasion he’s stepped into a Mahindra Racing car so far and look forward to working with him again in Berlin.”

Maini will conduct a full day of running at the test. The team will announce the second driver it will be fielding in the coming days. Other drivers confirmed to drive during this test session include F2 driver and McLaren junior Alex Dunne, as well as reigning F1 Academy champion Abbi Pulling.

After three difficult years, 2025 has been a season of resurgence for Mahindra Racing. The Indian team has emerged as a consistent points-scorer and even secured podium finishes at the Monaco E-Prix and Jakarta E-Prix. They currently stand P5 in the teams’ championship, just six points behind fourth-placed McLaren.

“I was really impressed with the Mahindra M11Electro in Jeddah, it’s a great car to drive and I can’t wait to experience it again in Berlin,” said Maini, who also served as the team’s reserve driver last season.

“Mahindra is a manufacturer I’ve worked with first-hand a lot over the last 18 months, and I’ve seen the hard work and development that has gone into improving the team’s results on-track. It’s a great source of pride for me to represent them, and to help them push on and keep that rate of development going.”
