India's best rally driver Gaurav Gill will contest one round of WRC at Australia in the S2000 (WRC2) class, Autocar India can reveal.

Scheduled on 12-15 September, the APRC rally winner will go against former championship rivals PG Andersson, Juho Hanninen, Alister McRae and F1 superstar Robert Kubica.

Gill will compete in the MRF-backed Skoda Fabia S2000, the same car in which his teammate Chris Atkinson won the title last year.

The Indian's last appearance on the world stage was a partial PWRC campaign with Sidvin in 2009. Armed with far more experience this time around, it might be Gill’s best chance to make an impact in the big league, his familiarity with the Fabia S2000 helping as well.

Apart from the one-off WRC appearance, Gill will continue his assault in the Asian Pacific Rally Championship for the sixth year running.

Schumacher to drive F1 car at Nordschleife

The demonstration run will take place as part of the build-up to this year's Nurburgring 24 Hours.
