At the 2025 Spanish GP, Alex Marquez took his maiden win in the premier class, after finishing second in the eight races that have transpired this season. Yamaha’s star rider Fabio Quartararo, who was the polesitter, finished second to take his first podium in nearly two years, followed by Francesco Bagnaia in third. Sprint winner Marc Marquez crashed out of the race in its early stages.

  1. Alex Marquez takes first ever MotoGP win
  2. Quartararo back on the podium after nearly 2 years
  3. All KTM riders inside the top 10

Younger Marquez wins as older one crashes

In all but one of the eight races that have been conducted so far in this MotoGP season, Alex Marquez has finished second, usually behind his brother Marc. However, the 2025 Spanish GP was a completely different story as Marc crashed out of the race in its opening laps. Alex then quickly overtook Fabio and stayed in the lead throughout the race. This is the younger Marquez's first-ever victory in MotoGP and with his fast pace and consistent form this season, he’s quite likely to increase that number.

While Marc did crash out, so electric was his pace when he quickly rejoined that he rode his damaged GP25 to 12th place, scoring four valuable championship points in the process. With his maiden victory and Marc’s 12th place finish, Alex Marquez once again leads the championship standings, just like he did after Marc’s crash at the Americas GP.

Fabio Quartararo puts Yamaha back on the podium

Once a MotoGP world championship winning bike, the Yamaha YZR-M1 has not been able to match the pace of the Bologna bullets in the last few years. But the 2025 Spanish GP saw polesitter Fabio Quartararo fight tooth and nail with the much faster Ducatis piloted by the likes of Bagnaia and the Marquez brothers to cross the chequered flag in second place. A very promising start from pole position saw Quartararo take the lead in the main race, and it was only after Marc crashed out, did he relinquish the top spot to Alex. Despite that, he very comfortably fended off two-time World Champion, Francesco Bagnaia, to cross the chequered flag in second place.

KTM finds its feet this season

After a troubled start to the 2025 MotoGP season, KTM seems to have somewhat found its footing at Jerez. Maverick Vinales’ strong form continued on from the Qatar GP and he finished the race fourth, again assuming the role of lead KTM rider. The works team duo of Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta finished sixth and seventh, respectively, and Vinales’ teammate Bastianini made a good recovery from 18th place to finish ninth. This put all four riders from the Austrian marque’s team inside the top 10.

2025 MotoGP standings

Alex leads the MotoGP standings by a slender 1-point lead over elder sibling Marc. The two Spaniards are trailed by Bagnaia, who is third in the standings. MotoGP will now head to the fabled Le Mans track in France on May 9-11.
