Harley-Davidson has announced that production of its Revolution Max platform for the North American market will be moved back to the United States, with the transition expected to be completed ahead of the start of MY28 production in 2027. The Revolution Max platform underpins three current models – the Pan America, Sportster S, and the Nightster.

Harley-Davidson Revolution Max production move: What it means

The decision comes amid broader changes to US trade policy and manufacturing priorities

The announcement forms part of Harley-Davidson's ongoing "Back to the Bricks" strategy under CEO Artie Starrs. As part of the transition, machining, powertrain assembly, paint operations and final vehicle assembly for North American-market Revolution Max models will return to the company's facilities in York, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Harley-Davidson said changes to US trade policy and the broader global trade environment have created new opportunities to invest in domestic manufacturing. The company described the decision as the result of several months of planning and says it expects to manufacture more than 1,00,000 motorcycles at its York facility in 2027 alone.

The Revolution Max engine family was introduced in 2021 and marked a significant departure for Harley-Davidson. Available in 975cc and 1,250cc forms, the liquid-cooled V-twin platform moved away from the brand's traditional air-cooled architecture and now powers multiple motorcycles in the lineup.

The announcement specifically concerns production for the North American market, meaning the impact on India is likely to be limited. Harley-Davidson currently sells the Pan America and Sportster S here, and those motorcycles are expected to continue being sourced from the company's manufacturing facility in Thailand.
