Porsche Macan EV expert review
Built on the all-new PPE platform co-developed with Audi, the Macan EV is entirely new under the skin. Without the constraints of a front engine, the design is more aerodynamic, the nose lower, and the stance more aggressive. Signature Porsche cues like the four-point LED DRLs remain, while Taycan-style details, such as the full-width light bar and deployable spoiler, reinforce its electric identity.
A design quirk worth noting: the underbody battery cooling fan, placed low for thermal management, kicks up dramatic dust clouds in dry areas – potentially disconcerting to owners. Build quality is top-notch, and active aero elements reinforce its performance focus.
8.0
Inside, the Macan EV is premium and sporty. Soft-touch materials, brushed aluminium, and tactile controls abound. The 18-way adjustable front seats now get massage functions, and the panoramic sunroof enhances airiness. However, rear seat space remains average despite a longer wheelbase. A high window line, sloping roof, and raised floor create a knees-up position that feels confined. Boot space is 480 litres in the Turbo, with a useful 84-litre frunk.
8.0
The Turbo makes 639hp and 1,130Nm, hitting 0-100kph in just 3.3 seconds. Power delivery is instant and sustained, with excellent thermal management. Low-speed refinement is smooth, though tyre and road noise are more evident in the absence of an engine. A subtle synthetic sound adds a bit of emotion.
9.0
With a 95kWh usable battery, the WLTP range is 591km. Even on a spirited drive to Mahabaleshwar, 31% charge remained. Fast charging at 270kW is possible, but India’s infrastructure limits practicality.
8.0
Despite weighing 2.4 tonnes, the Macan EV feels lithe, thanks to rear-axle steering and near 50:50 weight balance. Steering feel is excellent, and handling is crisp. Ride is firm but composed, and brake feel is best-in-class among EVs.
8.0
The cabin houses three slick screens – a 12.6-inch digital cluster, 10.9-inch central touchscreen, and optional passenger screen. The infotainment is fast and intuitive, with physical buttons for climate control retained. Surprisingly, wireless Apple CarPlay is missing, and the USB-C ports are awkwardly placed for right-hand-drive users. Safety equipment is comprehensive which includes ADAS features.
8.0
At Rs 1.68 crore, the Macan Turbo EV is pricey but delivers an engaging Porsche experience in electric form. More affordable 4 and 4S variants (Rs 1.22–1.38 crore) arrive later this year, retaining core performance appeal with less extreme power.
