Zarooq Motors had showcased a V6-engined SandRacer nearly two years ago, meant to be the word in dune-bashing while being road-legal.

The latest version of the off-road supercar, the SandRacer 500 GT, however, comes with a GM-sourced 6.2-litre, naturally aspirated V8 engine with a maximum output of 525hp and 660Nm of torque. The unit is mated to a five-speed sequential manual transmission that sends power exclusively to the rear wheels; it is likely to hit a top speed of 219kph.

The SUV’s dune-bashing and off-roading credentials are highlighted by the Dakar-spec Intrax dampers, providing suspension travel of up to 45cm. The suspension has two height settings, road and sand; which can be adjusted via a push of a button.

On the inside, the car will feature two seats, a digital dashboard, climate control and an infotainment system.

While Zarooq is based out of the UAE, the SandRacer 500 GT has a multinational flavour. It was founded by former French F3 driver Bruno Laffite and Mohammed Al Qadi (former COO of Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina F1 circuit), among others. Campos, a Spanish racing firm, has designed the SandRacer 500 GT's chassis that has a built-in roll cage. The Emirati manufacturer says it will assemble the car in the UAE and in Monaco.

Zarooq Motors plans to build 35 SandRacer 500 GTs and offer customers various bespoke customisation options. Production of the first five 500 GTs has begun and pre-orders for the remaining number have already been taken. Beyond the various powertrain and customisation options, there are plans to use the SUV in a one-make rally series.

While deliveries of the 500 GT will commence by the end of this year, there is no word on whether it will be available in India.
