Volvo will soon take the luxury car battle to rivals like the Mercedes E-class, BMW-5 series and the upcoming Jaguar XF with its spanking new S90. It’s the second car from the Swedish carmaker since its acquisition by Geely, the Chinese automaker; the first being the XC90 SUV. Here are some interesting facts about this latest India-bound luxury limo.

1. It’s the new flagship at Volvo
The S90 succeeds the ageing and slow-selling S80, which until now, was the carmaker’s biggest sedan. Not only is the S90 bigger than its predecessor (longer and wider), it’s also much more luxuriously appointed.

2. It’s long…really long
Yes, it’s bigger than the S80 it replaces, and doesn’t it look long in the images? In fact, at 4,963mm, it’s longer than rivals like the E-class, 5-series and the A6, second only to the new Jaguar XF, which is bigger at a whopping 5,067mm.

3. Hence, it’s quite unsurprisingly spacious too
Its large dimensions give it a clear advantage in terms of interior space. Additionally, Volvo has focused on rear seat space, thus chauffeur-driven owners will definitely appreciate the copious amounts of legroom at the rear.

4. It will be introduced with diesel engines
Expect the car to arrive in India with a 190hp, twin-turbo 2.0-litre ‘D4’ diesel engine under the hood. A more powerful 235hp version of this 2.0-litre engine, badged ‘D5’, is likely to follow later. The more potent version will also come with an all-wheel-drive.

5. It’s arriving soon
Volvo has commenced booking for the S90, which is bound for India sometime around mid-October this year. Volvo is likely to price the S90 D4 at about Rs 50-55 lakh, while the more powerful D5 model is expected to cost Rs 55-60 lakh (ex-showroom).
