Tata Motors is working on a new variant of the Vista hatchback that will be called the Tata Vista Tech. The Vista Tech is essentially the Tata Vista D90 (production of which has recently stopped) but with a 74bhp FGT (fixed-geometry turbo) diesel engine, instead of the D90’s 89bhp VGT (variable-geometry turbo) motor.
The Tata Vista Tech will retain the Vista D90’s interiors (which, like the Manza, slot the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel) and will be equipped similarly too. This means the Vista Tech will get a touchscreen audio system with voice-guided navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and an input for all popular media sources (USB, aux-in, SD card and DVD). There’s climate control too, but rear parking sensors have been left off the list.
Launched last year, the Tata Vista D90 hatchback received a tepid response, prompting the company to stop production within just under a year of its introduction (dealers still have stocks and the Tata Vista D90 presently carries a discount of about Rs 75,000). Using the lower-powered, 74bhp motor will help Tata Motors price the Vista Tech more competitively, offering consumers a well-equipped, large hatchback at a reasonable price.
However, this variant may just be a stop-gap solution, until Tata Motors' new hatchback, codenamed Falcon, replaces it in late 2014.
