After the debut of the updated 1.5-litre diesel engine under the Ameo's hood a few weeks ago, it was only a matter of time before it found its way into other models from the VW Group. Skoda recently introduced the updated engine into the Rapid with the launch of the facelift and now Volkswagen has quietly introduced it in the Vento sedan.

The Vento diesel now comes with the same EA189 1.5-litre engine. Essentially the same engine, this motor now delivers 110hp as opposed to 105hp earlier, thanks to a larger locally-sourced turbocharger. The torque remains identical at 250Nm. The Vento diesel with a manual gearbox now delivers 22.27kpl, while the DSG variant is good for 22.15kpl. The petrol-powered variants continue to be sold unchanged.

In addition to the more powerful engine, Volkswagen has added a new Silk Blue paint to the Vento shade card. This is the same colour that was introduced on the Polo Allstar recently. There are no other mechanical or cosmetic changes in the 110hp Vento diesel.

Over the past few months Volkswagen has also made minor changes to the car’s equipment list, with the big one among them being the introduction of dual airbags and ABS as standard fitment. The Volkswagen Vento rivals the likes of the Honda City, the Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid and the Hyundai Verna.
