Fiat has launched the Avventura Urban Cross in India. Prices for the base diesel variant start at Rs 6.85 lakh while the top-spec Abarth-powered model costs Rs 9.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Urban Cross was first showcased in a thinly veiled concept form at this year’s Auto Expo in February, and it was easy to tell what to expect from the production version. The production car is almost identical to the Avventura, with the same raised ground clearance (205mm) and similar bumpers, but loses out on the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The spare is now placed in the conventional location in the boot, like in the Punto.

The Fiat Urban Cross comes with diesel as well as petrol engine options, both mated to five-speed manual transmissions. The diesel engine is a 93hp 1.3-litre Multijet engine that powers the Punto Evo, whereas the petrol motor is the more powerful 142hp 1.4-litre T-Jet engine that also does duty in the Avventura powered by Abarth.

The diesel Urban Cross comes in two variants – Active and Dynamic – whereas the petrol is available in the fully loaded Emotion variant only. The top-spec Avventura Urban Cross gets 16-inch 'Scorpion' alloy wheels while the lesser-priced Active and Dynamic trims come with piano-black finish alloy wheels.

Fiat is offering its Smartech 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth as standard across all variants. For the festive season, the Urban Cross Emotion and dynamic trims get premium burgundy interior with colour-coordinated door inserts, piano black finish door armrests and seats.

With the Urban Cross, Fiat is aiming to expand its share in the cross-hatch market that also includes rivals such as the Cross Polo, the i20 Active and the Etios Cross.

Prices of the FIat Urban Cross (ex-showroom, Delhi)

1.3 93hp Multijet Active: Rs 6.85 lakh
1.3 93hp Multijet Dynamic: Rs 7.45 lakh
1.4 140hp T-Jet Emotion: Rs 9.85 lakh
