Toyota has teased a Century SUV convertible that could go into production in the near future. The uniquely-styled SUV was teased at the same event where the Century SUV made its global debut. With a line-up of SUVs expected under the Century brand, Toyota is aiming to cater to its existing Century sedan customers, and also new buyers who prefer chauffeur-driven vehicles

  1. Century convertible SUV could be built in extremely limited numbers
  2. Will have same platform, powertrain as the standard Century SUV
  3. Both SUVs will be sold alongside the Century sedan

Century SUV Convertible could be a made-to-order vehicle

Toyota had showcased a roofless Century earlier as well – the specially commissioned Century sedan lost its roof for the royal parade organised for Japanese Emperor Naruhito's enthronement back in 2019. The Century SUV convertible that has been teased could be for a similar event, or Toyota may have plans to sell it in very limited numbers.

During the global debut of the Century SUV, a design sketch of the Century convertible SUV was briefly shown in the background. This teaser was shown while Toyota chief branding officer Simon Humphries spoke about "the possibilities are endless and open to discussion" when it comes to customising the Century SUV. While not officially confirmed, this indirectly seals the deal on Toyota being serious about selling a luxury SUV in convertible body style.

Toyota Century SUV convertible teased

Toyota plans to sell around 360 units a year of the standard Century SUVs, and going by this number, the Century convertible SUV will be even more limited in number as far as production numbers go.

While not much is known about the Century SUV convertible, expect it to carry many common bits from the standard Century SUV, including the platform, its petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain, body panels, interior bits, and most of its electronics. The Century SUV convertible, however, will not get a fixed roof but a convertible roof, which can be tucked away behind the rear seat when not in use.

The Century SUV or the Century SUV convertible, however, will not replace the popular Century sedan, and are expected to be sold alongside the sedan.
