Volkswagen has launched the Tiguan in India with prices starting at Rs 27.98 lakh and going up to Rs 31.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). VW’s re-entry into the SUV segment, the Tiguan is available in two trim levels and is being manufactured at the German automaker’s Aurangabad, Maharashtra, facility.

VW, however, is not offering the base Trendline variant – a trim available on other VW models in the country – in the Tiguan which comes only in Comfortline and Highline trims.

The Comfortline offers equipment such as 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and DRL, electrically-adjustable heated front seats, cruise control and paddle shifters. The Highline variant adds in the larger 18-inch alloys, panoramic sunroof and a reverse parking camera.

Safety features offered on the SUV as standard include ABS, ESC, curtain and front airbags, front and rear parking sensors and rain sensing wipers.

The Tiguan currently comes with only a 143hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine paired with the automaker’s seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Four-wheel drive is standard though we could expect the automaker to add two-wheel drive models to the line-up later.

The SUV has been launched in its standard five-seat version – the model shown to the Indian public at the Auto Expo last year.
