Tata Nano sales bounced back in December 2010 after a poor show in the month of November. Tata Motors managed to sell 5,784 units of the small car in December as compared to 509 units in the previous month.
The jump in sales of the Nano can be attributed to the recent perks announced by Tata Motors. The company is offering a whooping 4-year / 60,000km manufacturer’s warranty, at no extra cost. In addition, new customers were also offered optional comprehensive maintenance contract just at Rs 99 per month.
Tata Motors sold the Nano in good numbers from June to August, with sales hovering around 8,000 units. In July, the numbers even touched 9000 units. However, it was in September that the Nano sales started to drop, with figures for the said month standing at 5,520 units, while October sales dropping to 3,065 units.
In the months leading to the year-end, Tata Motors had made few tweaks to the Nano like providing a cover for the catalytic convertor, addition of a fuse in the electrical system to prevent short-circuit post any after-market fitment in the car, and replacement of the starter motor (in cars produced till Jan ’10) – to win back customer trust.
To strengthen Nano’s case even further, Tata Motors has launched a special Tata Nano finance scheme, under which customers can avail up to 90% loan with select documents in just 48 hours. Besides, the company has tied up with 28 Banks and NBFCs to offer customers loans for purchasing the Tata Nano at attractive rates of interest.
Tata Motors has also announced that the Nano will now be available off-the-shelf and buyers will be able to purchase the small car from the company’s 874 sales outlets in India. Earlier, the Nano sales were open in only 12 states.
