This extreme Suzuki X-Lander concept is destined for production, albeit in modified form, according to sources at the Tokyo motor show.
The X-Lander sits on the current Suzuki Jimny platform, but is powered by a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1242cc petrol engine with an electric motor of unspecified output.
As well as increasing efficiency, the electric motor is said apportion torque to all four wheels to boost the X-Lander's low-speed off-road capability.
What's not clear is if the X-Lander is designed to show how the next generation Suzuki Jimny will look, or whether it previews an all-new model.
What is evident is that the open-top design and stripped-out futuristic interior are unlikely to make it to production without significant changes.
