In a recent crash test conducted by Euro NCAP, the all-new Suzuki Swift has received a 3-star rating. The star ratings are based on the car’s overall performance in crash protection as well as crash avoidance technologies that it is equipped with.

The car selected for the test was the 1.2-litre petrol GL variant of the 2017 Swift. Its kerb weight was rated as 855kg and was equipped with six airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners with load limiters, Isofix rear child seat mounts and a seat belt reminder. In the test results, the car scored 83 percent for adult occupants, 75 percent for child occupants, 69 percent for pedestrian safety and 25 percent for safety assists. However, the key differentiation between this car and the one to be sold in India would be that the former has six airbags, while the Indian Swift is likely to get dual front airbags only.

Another Swift with an optional ‘radar brake support’ was tested too. While other parameters remained unchanged, this car scored 4 stars mainly because of the autonomous emergency braking feature. In terms of adult occupant safety it scored 88 percent and 44 percent for safety assists, while other ratings remained identical to the Swift without this optional crash avoidance feature.

The new-gen Swift is based on Suzuki’s new ‘Heartect’ architecture which is both lightweight and more rigid than the outgoing version. When it launches in India, at the 2018 Auto Expo, it will likely be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine, as well as the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol like the Baleno RS.
