Nissan revealed a region-specific model of its full-size SUV, the Patrol called the Patrol Desert Edition at the Dubai motor show. The SUV was developed jointly by Nissan and UAE Rally Champion and FIA Vice President and President of the Automobile and Touring Club UAE, Dr Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

Setting the new model apart from the standard Patrol are different design wheels, modified skid-plates, wheel arch protectors and ‘Desert Edition’ and ‘MBS’ badging. Mechanically, the suspension has been revised, there is an on-board tyre inflator and ‘bead lock’ wheels that allow the tyres to be used at very low pressures without the worry of them coming off.

Powering the Patrol is a 5.6-litre V8 engine developing 400bhp and 57.10kgm of torque mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox with manual mode.

Other equipment offered as standard on the Patrol ‘Desert Edition’ are sand ramps and kinetic rope in-case of a towing situation.

Nissan said that with the Patrol Desert Edition, the company showed that it was committed to delivering tailored models for customers in the region and that the model was the result of a research study that showed a demand for a bespoke version of the Patrol SUV.

Earlier in October, Nissan revealed a Nismo-powered version of the Patrol SUV with a sportier body kit, 22-inch wheels along, a more powerful iteration of the 5.6-litre V8 and upgraded suspension and steering.

Nissan has also been considering bringing its full-size Toyota Land Cruiser rivalling SUV to India. However, the Japanese manufacturer hasn't confirmed dates for the launch.
