Nissan launches connected car technology in India

Nissan India today launched a suite of connectivity services, called Nissan Connect, which offers a host of convenience, navigation and safety features. The features are accessible via a smartphone application which is available on Android, iOS and Windows platforms for Nissan customers.

The Nissan Connect app comes with convenience features such as service booking alert, document wallet, fuel log and service history. Customers can also locate nearby fuel stations, Nissan dealerships, service stations and book car services in advance.

The connected services also include safety features such as speed alert where customers can activate curfew, max speed, and boundary alerts on the app and get notifications if set limits are exceeded. Under curfew alert, the app alerts the vehicle owner when the car moves beyond a set time frame, while geofencing alerts the owner when the vehicle moves out of a set boundary area.Nissan also offers roadside assistance in case of an emergency or vehicle breakdown.

Nissan joins carmakers such as Toyota and Honda who have rolled out similar services accessible through a smartphone application. Carmakers feel such apps, which are rapidly being introduced to suit the digital lifestyle of car buyers play a vital role in enabling the transition to advanced connected-car technology.

“The emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) is shifting gears in the automotive industry. With Nissan Connect, we aim to provide an effortless driving experience integrated with our customers' connected lifestyle while maintaining data security,” according to Krishnan Sundararajan, managing director, Renault Nissan Technology Business Centre India.

Notably, the carmaker is now gearing up to expand features under Nissan Connect in the near term with the launch of a host of other services such as vehicle diagnostics, tyre pressure monitoring, vehicle health monitoring, and remote car control. Apart from enhancing the ownership experience, these services will also enable Nissan to differentiate itself from other automakers. The launch of Nissan Connect services is part of the carmaker’s global Intelligent Mobility plan that the Indian arm is closely aligning with.
