A replacement for the Toyota Supra could be shown in concept car form at the Detroit motor show in January.
Toyota has confirmed to Autocar that a new performance-based concept will be seen in Detroit, but declined to comment on whether that concept would point towards a new Supra.
The new concept will be designed by Toyota's Calty studio, which has contributed to a number of Lexus, Scion and Toyota designs in the past but has not worked on a Supra project before.
However, a story posted on Autoblog suggests the concept will indeed be Supra-based, and that high-level Toyota officials plan to "shock the world" with a new Supra concept. A production version is likely to follow.
This won't be the first time a Supra replacement has been previewed. In 2007 the manufacturer showed its FT-HS concept at the Detroit motor show. That concept was also designed by Calty, and reportedly featured a 395bhp hybrid powertrain, which allowed the FT-HS to reach 60mph in around four seconds.
