The Range Rover SVAutobiography, revealed recently, is set to replace the current Range Rover Autobiography Black trim when it goes on sale this summer. The SUV will be offered in both standard and long wheelbase forms.

The latest Range Rover now features a new paint scheme with its black upper body combined with one of the nine colour choices, along with bespoke badging at the rear and new lettering on the bonnet. The SVAutobiography also gets a chrome finished grille.

On the inside, it gets control surfaces made of aluminium along with new trim on the centre console. The rear passengers get powered, deployable tables, and access to a chiller compartment. The tailgate of the car now features two extra seats dubbed ‘Event Seats’ that are slotted into place on the tailgate. The boot also gets a sliding floor to help with loading and unloading.

Engine options include a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 generating 542bhp, the same one that powers the Range Rover Sport SVR. Other options include the SDV8 and SDV6 hybrid from existing Range Rovers.

With the launch of the Range Rover SVAutobiography, Land Rover will now have a SUV to take on the likes of the upcoming Rolls-Royce and Bentley SUVs, and form a segment of super-luxury SUVs. Another company to join this segment will be Mercedes-Benz, with a Mercedes-Maybach SUV based on the GLS. The Bentley and Rolls-Royce SUVs are expected to go on sale in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

The SVAutobiography is also the first luxury vehicle to be created by JLR’s Special Operations division, with previous models leaning more towards performance. It is known that JLR eventually wants its division to cover three areas: performance, luxury and all-terrain vehicles.

The luxury SUV is set to be showcased at the New York Auto Show before its global launch.
