Mitsubishi has begun testing the next-generation Pajero Sport SUV. Although the current generation Pajero Sport reached Indian shores only in 2012, the model is on sale globally since 2008. These are the very first spy photos of the next-gen Pajero Sport seen testing in Australia.

As seen from the photos, the overall side profile of the new Pajero Sport SUV continues to resemble the current generation car’s rugged and butch profile. However, a closer look reveals that the new Pajero Sport could be slightly larger than the current version. Its front styling is inspired by the Mitsubishi GR-HEV concept shown in 2013.

The next-gen SUV will continue to feature slimmer headlamps and indicators, and a similar muscular front bumper. However, it is now expected to come with a thick character line running across the sides.  The front styling of the new Pajero Sport is expected to resemble the Triton pickup sold in international markets.

Under the hood, there are talks of an all-new 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo-diesel motor. The current generation Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine.

Mitsubishi is expected to unveil the new Pajero Sport later this year, however, there is no news of it coming to India anytime soon. The new Pajero Sport is expected to compete directly with the likes of the 2015 Ford Everest (Endeavour), Toyota Fortuner and Chevrolet Trailblazer SUVs.

Toyota is also readying the next-generation Fortuner SUV, which is expected to be unveiled soon.
