Both the coupe SUVs are now powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged motor, ditching the 3.0-litre bi-turbo, six cylinder engine from the outgoing model. Mercedes claims the GLC 43 coupe features mild-hybrid technology, generates 421hp and 500Nm of torque, with a 0-100 kph of 4.7 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 250kph.

On the other hand, the GLC 63 S E Performance coupe has a plug-in hybrid powertrain with the engine capable of producing 469hp on its own. A further 201hp is added by the electric motors for a combined power output of 680hp and 1,019Nm of torque. The 63 S E Performance coupe has an electronically limited top speed of 275kph, with an impressive 0-100kph time of 3.4 seconds. The hybrid system is also claimed to offer a pure electric driving range of just 12km.

Besides the engines, the two coupes share an all-wheel-drive system, rear-wheel steering and a 9-speed automatic gearbox. They boast high-performance brakes, speed-sensing steering and adjustable suspension dampers as standard. The GLC 63 S E Performance also features an active anti-roll system, and AMG's Dynamic Select drive mode is standard on both vehicles. The GLC 43 features five settings whilst the 63 S E Performance boasts 8 different settings for the drivers to choose from.

Besides the coupe-like sloped rear end, the GLC 43 and the 63 S E Performance coupes feature typical AMG design cues. This includes AMG-specific grille, sportier front and rear bumpers, new alloy wheels of up to 21-inch in size, AMG-specific side skirting and a prominent rear diffuser with quad exhausts – two on each side.

Inside, the vehicles feature AMG-spec steering wheel, sporty seats with nappa leather with AMG branded pedals and floor mats, and illuminated door sills. There's also unique AMG graphics on the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system.

As far as other coupe SUVs are concerned, Mercedes does offer the AMG GLE Coupe in India in 53 4Matic guise.
