Mercedes is set to replace the current-gen GLE (essentially a facelifted M-class) with the next-gen model codenamed W167 in international markets sometime in 2018.

The SUV will likely get a more aggressive look with bigger wheel arches, a more prominent bonnet, as well as a more raked rear window. The car's overall wheelbase could be longer, too. The new wheel arch lips also suggest that its track could be slightly wider. However, fewer changes are expected for the new GLE’s grille.

As for powertrains, an updated list of turbocharged four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, as well as a new hybrid option, are expected. Mercedes-Benz's latest turbocharged V8 is expected to feature in the hot AMG GLE 63 model.

When it does launch in international markets, the next-gen GLE SUV will rival the likes of the 2018 Porsche Macan and the facelifted Range Rover Sport. A new GLE Coupé model will also follow, offering a more direct rival to the BMW X6 and forthcoming Range Rover Coupé.

Mercedes launched the current-gen GLE in India within a year of the model’s international debut in March last year. Likewise, it is safe to assume that the next-gen model could come to India shortly after its international debut.
