Mitsubishi's largest offering, the Montero, has made its comeback to India, after being discontinued in 2014. As far as styling is concerned, the updated SUV is near identical to the discontinued model but gets additional features and revised front styling.
Engines
The Montero carries forward the 192hp 3.2-litre direct injection diesel engine but with tweaks to improve performance. The motor is mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox with power sent to all four wheels via Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD II system. The system gives the car four driveline modes – 2WD High (2-H ), 4WD High (4-H), 4WD High with locked center differential (4-HLc), and 4WD low with locked center differential (4-LLc). All but the 4-LLc mode allows for shift on the fly.
Features
Available in one trim only, the Montero gets features such as HID headlamps with auto high beam and levelling, LED daytime-running lamps, fog lamps, rear wiper, sunroof, front and rear tow hooks, leather upholstery, heated and powered front seats, reclining second row seats, auto climate control, rear air-con vents with manual controls, rear parking sensors and a 860W Rockford Acoustics touchscreen infotainment system.
On the safety front, the Montero is equipped with dual front, front side and curtain airbags, multi-mode ABS, EBD, traction control and three-point seatbelts for all occupants.
Price
The updated Montero is available in seven colours and gets customisable dual-tone interiors. Brought in via the CBU route, the Montero is priced at a whopping Rs 67.88 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), which puts it in the crosshairs of premium SUVs like BMW X5 and the Mercedes GLE.
