Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is considering bringing its new small car, the 1.2-litre Mirage ‘Ecocar’ hatchback, to India. The car was launched globally at the Bangkok motor show in March.

The Mirage was first revealed as Mitsubishi’s global small car concept aimed at emerging markets at Geneva in March 2011. Its highlights included good manoeuvrability and typical compact car features in an efficient package that can seat five adults comfortably. It is expected to get a 1.2-litre petrol engine which boasts mileage of 20kpl.

According to Masahiko Ueki, executive officer and corporate general manager (Asia and Asean) Mitsubishi, is exploring a second manufacturing site in India, but will decide only after Malaysia and Indonesia are considered. Mitsubishi has yet to decide whether it will launch it in India on its own or jointly with its Indian partner Hindustan Motors.
