Mitsubishi is set to reveal the Emirai 3 xDas concept at the upcoming Tokyo motor show. The concept will showcase technology that allows the car to react to the driver’s mood.

Hinting at its goal of creating a car that can automatically react to the driver’s requirements with minimal inputs, Mitsubishi says its guiding theme has been “making feelings come true”.

Inside, all cabin operations can be controlled through hand motions rather than physical contact with buttons and dials. The driver also has the option of putting on a wearable device that vibrates to alert them of any hazards or changes in the car’s set-up. The Emirai 3 xDas concept has a heads-up display that highlights potential hazards on the road, including those around corners at junctions. It uses 3D mapping to display the information.

A camera that points at the driver at all times, monitors the facial expression and links that information to a cardiograph, before varying the car’s responses accordingly. In order to advise on rest stops, this information is also automatically analysed against historical data of the driver’s physical condition. The system also records data on hazard hotspots for sharing to other drivers.

The cabin features distinctive, fully customisable LCD displays on either side of the driver. These displays are laminated and bonded to allow for ease of visibility and operation in all conditions.
Mitsubishi will also showcase the Emirai3 xAuto, which showcases the firm’s fully autonomous driving technology at the Tokyo motor show.
