Mercedes-Benz is soon to launch its GL-class to take the fight against the Audi Q7. Looking at the declining sales of the M-class, thanks to the strong appeal of the Q7, Mercedes will officially launch its gigantic SUV, the GL-class at the Auto Expo in January 2010.

The GL will be five meters long weighing two-and-a-half tones with seating option for seven. Mercedes is slating the GL against the Audi Q7 in the SUV luxury battle, where the latter is perceived as the luxury SUV standards by Indians.

With GL’s imposing size and presence, the M-class looks punny in comparison and the company is betting big on it. The price will be announced at the Expo but expect it to be in the Q7 territory. Could this be the new king of luxury SUV segment? Only time will tell.
