Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the E-class Coupe at the Auto Expo 2010. CLK replacement in the international markets, the E-class Coupe was just for the display and Mercedes has no plans to sell it in India.
It is the world’s most aerodynamic road car with a drag coefficient of 0.24, lower than even the new Toyota Prius. The Coupe will be about 181kg lighter than the E-Class sedan and with a slicker body, it is more efficient and has better handling characteristics than the car it replaces.
There are two diesel engines on offer, the E250 CDI BlueEfficiency with 204bhp and 51.02kgm of torque and the E350 CDI BlueEfficiency making 231bhp and maximum torque of 55.1kgm. The Coupe comes equipped with the Mercedes-Benz’ Agility Control suspension system, pre-safe system – a brake feature that automatically applies the brakes in case of emergency, and attention assist that keeps the driver alert using about 70 parameters.
Based on the W204 platform, the Coupe shares its platform with the C-class rather than the E-class after which it is named. The company officials say this is because of the Coupe sharing more than 60 percent of the components and technology with the E-class.
