Mercedes-AMG is all set to launch the E53 Cabriolet 4Matic+ in India on January 6, 2023, and will come to India as a CBU. The AMG-spec four-seat convertible will get a mild-hybrid straight six turbo-petrol engine and when launched, it will be the fourth ‘53’ badged AMG model in India after the E 53 sedan, GLE 53 coupe-SUV and the EQS 53 EV sedan.

    • Mercedes-AMG E 53 makes 435hp
    • Does 0-100kph in 4.6 seconds

    Mercedes-AMG E 53 Cabriolet: what is it?

The AMG E 53 Cabriolet is essentially the two-door, four-seat convertible version of the E 53 sedan, with the former also available in non-AMG guise globally. This, however, is not the first time that Mercedes is launching the open-top version of the E-Class in India – it had launched the previous-generation in 2010, and its facelift in 2015. This time around, Mercedes will bring the more powerful AMG version to India.

    Mercedes-AMG E 53 Cabriolet: powertrain and performance

Like the E 53 sedan and GLE 53 coupe-SUV, the cabriolet also uses the same 435hp, 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an integrated starter generator, which makes an additional 21hp and 249Nm of torque. It also gets Dynamic Select driving modes and AMG’s Ride Control+ air suspension.

The power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes says that the E53 Cabriolet can go from 0-100 in 4.6 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 250kph.

Mercedes-AMG E 53 Cabriolet: design, interior and features

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Cabriolet gets AMG-specific enhancements like a signature grille and a new front splitter, which makes its front end design in-line with other AMG models.

The basic interior layout is similar to its sedan counterpart with the chunky, flat-bottom AMG steering wheel and the large dual 12.3-inch instrument and infotainment screens being stand-out features. In terms of equipment, the E 53 Cabriolet comes with features like a wireless phone charger, Burmester sound system and ambient lighting. It also gets an AIRSCARF, which keeps the front occupants' necks heated.

    Mercedes-AMG E 53 Cabriolet: launch and rivals

When launched, the E 53 Cabriolet will have no direct rivals in the Indian market. Along with the launch of the E 53 Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz will also detail its future plans for India at the conference.
