Mercedes-Benz has launched the ML 63 AMG SUV here at Rs 1.49 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). This follows close on the heels of the introduction of the company's GL 63 AMG and is an indication of Mercedes's performance arm's growing focus on India. The new AMG-powered SUV was launched at the company's AMG Performance Centre – the first of its kind in India – and marked the official inauguration of the facility as well.
When you first look at the ML 63 AMG, the performance pedigree is evident on the outside with the AMG wheels, massive brakes, quad rectangular exhausts, V8 Biturbo badges on the flanks and the slightly different bumpers from the standard car. On the inside, there's AMG dials and seats, Alcantara and leather-wrapped steering wheel and Alcantara roof lining.
At the heart of the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG lies a 550bhp, 5.5-litre V8 motor that comes mated to a AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels. Torque stands at 77.4kgm and the ML gets to 100kph from standstill in a claimed 4.7seconds. The ML 63 AMG has an electronically limited top speed of 250kph though this can be upped to 280kph with the optional AMG Driver's Package. You can also choose from three suspension settings – Comfort, Sport and Sport+.
The AMG Performance Centre in Delhi is the 375th one worldwide and it'll be used as a hub for all AMG events here. The centre has experts trained in sales and service at the AMG headquarters in Germany and the carmaker has said that more centres will be coming up in India.
