Maruti has launched the diesel Ciaz with the clever fuel-saving SHVS technology. The Ciaz SHVS gets the addition of micro-hybrid technology that includes stop-start technology, brake energy recuperation and Engine Power Assist systems. The tech helps the Ciaz achieve an ARAI figure of 28.09kpl, making it the most fuel-efficient car in India.

The system runs on the tried and tested 1.3-litre engine offered in two states of tune. This motor is offered across all Maruti diesel models except for the diesel Celerio

At the Ciaz SHVS' launch event, it was officially confirmed that the carmaker would equip more of its models with the SHVS tech. Our sources tell us that the next model in line will likely be the updated Ertiga. Unveiled recently in Indonesia, the updated Ertiga gets minor styling tweaks on the exteriors. The version headed to India could also get the addition of the 7-inch touchscreen equipped with the SmartPlay infotainment system. The Ertiga in its current diesel avatar does 20.77kpl, and the addition of SHVS tech will surely help it move closer to Mobilio’s 24.5kpl mark.

Maruti is also testing the Dzire equipped with an AMT gearbox. The Dzire could also receive the fuel-efficient SHVS upgrade in the near future. The current diesel-powered Dzire does 26.59kpl, and after the upgrade it could better the Ciaz’s 28.09kpl figure.
