India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki today announced that dual airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) are now available as an option on all variants of the Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan, including the base variants.

Until now, both the safety features were only available on the top variants.  The Swift and Dzire are the carmaker’s top-selling models in the country and have increasingly contributed towards expanding Maruti Suzuki’s market share in the Indian passenger vehicle market. The addition of dual airbags and ABS is aimed at attracting the safety-conscious car buyers.

“Swift and Dzire are two of the most popular cars in India. By offering driver and co-driver airbags and ABS across all variants of these two models, we want to further strengthen their popularity among customers,” R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, MSIL, said in a company statement.

The move will also help the carmaker prepare itself for the government’s stringent safety norms under which all new cars will have to undergo mandatory crash tests from October 2017.

While the carmaker recently equipped the Wagon R and Stingray with dual airbags and ABS as standard, it has offered the features across all variants of Baleno right from its launch.

Here are the prices for the optional variants of the Swift and the Dzire;
