To commemorate 100 years since founder Ferruccio Lamborghini’s birth, Italian sports car maker Lamborghini has unveiled the Centenario at the Geneva motor show. Based on the Aventador’s platform, it is Lamborghini’s most potent production supercar ever.

Just 40 examples, 20 coupes and 20 roadsters, will be built, and as with most limited-run supercars, all 40 have already found buyers.

Despite the Centenario’s extreme looks, Lamborghini insists that the supercar places function ahead of form. The ultra-low nose with the wide-mouthed intakes up front and the massive diffuser at the rear clearly emphasise the focal point of the design; massive amounts of downforce!

However, the Centenario retains some of the Aventador's features, the long swooping roofline for instance. While the headlights resemble those of the Huracan, the tail-lights are clearly inspired by the Y-shaped units on the Asterion concept.

At the heart of the Centenario is the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 from the Aventador, that belts out 19bhp more at 759bhp. It’s Lamborghini’s most powerful production engine ever. So yes, performance is scintillating, to say the least. 0-100kph? 2.8seconds; the claimed top-speed stands north of 345kph. The car also goes from 300kph to standstill in just 290 metres, thanks to its carbon-ceramic brakes. The Centenario also comes equipped with Lamborghini’s four-wheel-steering system.

The cabin panels come wrapped in carbon and Alcantara, and pack a pair of carbonfibre seats. A 10.1-inch touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay comes as standard. The infotainment system is connected to the internet, and also incorporates telemetry software, which can record speeds, times and G forces.

The Centenario joins the Reventón, Sesto Elemento, Aventador J and Veneno in the small line-up of sold-out limited-run Lamborghini cars.
