Jaguar is testing the facelifted XJ sedan ahead of its expected launch next year.

According to our sources, the updated XJ will see styling tweaks with the huge grille of the current model slightly downsized by making it less deep. This has freed up space below the grille for a slightly larger rectangular air intake.

Large intakes in the front lower corners of the bonnet are now a bigger and cleaner design. The headlamps appear to be unchanged from the 2014 model units, which saw the addition of an orange indicator unit.

At the rear, the changes to the bumper are less dramatic and appear to centre on a restyling of the lower insert, which contains the exhaust pipes.

Although Jaguar does currently offer a 2.0-litre, 237bhp, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol version of the XJ, it seems unlikely that the car will have another major overhaul in order for it to be able to use JLR’s all-new range of four-cylinder engines, dubbed Ingenium, which make their debut in early 2015.
