BMW has revealed the BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition. The special-edition model gets a number of styling upgrades over the standard i8.

It gets red bodywork and metallic grey highlights, with the red paint being specially developed for the car. The car also features a black front grille surround and gets W-spoke alloys as standard.
The interior of the i8 Protonic Red Edition features red upholstery stitching and bespoke carbon-fibre and ceramic trim. BMW claims that the Protonic Red Edition’s focus is on individuality and exclusivity. Therefore, the company plans to limit production, although the number of units to be produced hasn't been confirmed.

No mechanical changes have been made to the special-edition i8. The car maintains the standard car's claimed combined fuel economy of 47.08kpl. It is capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in 4.4seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 249.44kph.

The i8 Protonic Red Edition will go into production this July, with first deliveries expected in September. BMW currently has no plans to extend the special edition to the i8's stablemate, the i3.
