Hyundai Motor India has launched its all-new Verna saloon. The Verna will be available with two petrol and two diesel motors, with prices starting from Rs 6.99lakh for the base petrol, rising up to Rs 10.74lakh for the top end diesel variant (prices ex-showroom Delhi).

The new Verna sports modern and attractive styling cues, familiar to the design language of the new i10. Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language is clearly visible in the new saloon with sharp cuts dominating the design. The grille and headlights use the same styling as the new i10 while the upturned fog lamps at the bottom look unique. The dual-tone interiors look fresh, attractive and well put together.

The Hyundai has plonked its latest Gamma petrol and U2 diesel motors under the hood. The pair of petrol and diesels both come with 1.4 and 1.6-litre capacities with different power outputs. The 1.4 90bhp diesel is the same unit doing duty in the i20 and hence the heavier Verna won’t be as quick as the hatch. But this base diesel motor is economical, refined and will suffice for everyday driving. It’s the 1.6-litre CRDi diesel that promises to be the cracker, pumping out 126bhp and 26.5kgm of torque.

Hyundai’s new-generation Gamma petrol twin-cam, 16-valve motor comes with continuously variable valve timing and, as a result, power and torque outputs are pretty healthy. The 1.4 delivers 106.5bhp while the 1.6 Gamma dishes out 122bhp, making it the most powerful engine in its class.

The car rides on an all-new platform with a 2570mm wheelbase. It uses an increased amount of ultra-high tensile strength steel, so expect improved handling and better NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) levels. Hyundai has spent Rs 900crore in the development of the new Verna which will complete against the Honda City.
