Three engine, two gearbox options for Hyundai Creta

The Creta has proven to be a very popular small SUV and we take a look at what it offers.

Hyundai entered the small SUV market with the launch of the Creta in July 2015. In just one year, the small SUV recorded sales of over one lakh units, and also saw a waiting period of up to 10 months.

To mark its first anniversary, Hyundai rolled out a limited-run First Anniversary Edition of the small SUV as well. The automaker also rolled out newer variants of the Creta including a petrol automatic and a more affordable diesel automatic to further bolster its position as one of the best selling SUVs in the country.

Hyundai Creta engines

The Creta is available with a choice of one petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol motor on offer is a 123hp 1.6-litre unit. Of the two diesel motor on offer, the first is the 90hp 1.4-litre unit also found in smaller Hyundais like the i20. The second diesel is a significantly more powerful 128hp 1.6-litre unit. A six-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard though the petrol and more powerful diesel engine also get the option of a six-speed automatic unit.

Hyundai Creta features

The Creta offers quite a bit of luxury, especially in its top trims. The automaker has also focused on safety with dual airbags and ABS offered as standard, and the top trim additionally getting side and curtain airbags. Available in seven variants, the top-trim Creta gets equipment such as ESC, parking sensors and camera, diamond-cut alloy wheels, leather upholstery, key-less entry and go, and a 7.0-inch Audio/Video/Navigation system that is also available on select lower variants. A smaller 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is offered on select variants as well. It must be noted that the top-trim Creta is a diesel-manual only, while lower variants get the option for diesel and petrol automatics.
