Joining the league of manufactures offering automated manual transmission (AMT), Hyundai is now working on its own version for India. Unlike the other brands, Hyundai will not source technology from leading AMT manufacturers such as Magneti Marelli or Ricardo, instead it will make the parts in-house at its AMT division.

Thanks to higher costs and lower fuel efficiency, conventional torque converter automatic gearboxes were largely ignored by budget car buyers. However, AMT-equipped cars are gaining popularity in India due to their low purchase costs, clutch-less convenience and good fuel efficiency. Expect Hyundai to equip multiple models from the budget line-up with the new AMT tech.
