The 2013-14 financial year has been very good for Honda Cars India. The Japanese carmaker registered its highest ever monthly domestic sales in March and grew a strong 83.4 percent across the last financial year.

The company's sales through FY 2013-14 at 1,34,339 units, is the highest ever figure for the manufacturer. Reports show that market response to the Amaze compact sedan, launched last year and the all-new City introduced in January this year, are the primary drivers of this demand for Honda. While the Amaze sedan saw the introduction of Honda's first-ever diesel engine for India, the all-new City saw the inclusion of the same diesel motor (tuned differently for the higher class of car), a first for the mid-sizer's line-up. The City sedan, continues to rack up strong numbers. It sold 9,518 units in March as opposed to 7,213 units in February.

Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice president, marketing and sales, said, “We are thankful to our customers for the great response we have achieved from them for our two big launches of Amaze and All New City during the past financial year. The year also witnessed our entry into the diesel segment with i-DTEC diesel engine technology which has received an overwhelming response from the market. With both manufacturing plants in operation, as well as two new models, the stylish mid-sized MPV, Honda Mobilio and the all-new Honda Jazz due for launch this financial year, we look forward to another year of growth.”

“We will increase our dealer network by 35 percent in this year by reaching out to more Tier II and Tier III markets, which will be instrumental for our growth,” he added.
