The new Infiniti Q30 concept will be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

It's expected to take the form of a compact premium crossover in international markets that will target both small SUVs and upmarket hatchbacks. Infiniti's brand boss, Andy Palmer, has described it as occupying a niche "between the Audi A3 and Q3".

The concept is claimed to point the way for Infiniti's progression in to new segments of the premium market, with the brand hoping to appeal to younger and more modern customers.

“This Infiniti Q30 concept is a prelude to the product portfolio expansion which underpins our aggressive global growth strategy,” said Johan de Nysschen, president of Infiniti.

Infiniti's new model will also be the first that Sebastian Vettel, the company's director of performance, has influenced from the beginning of its design.

Previously, Infiniti has downplayed concerns that the Q30, which is set to go on sale in 2015 and will be built in Sunderland, would be 'a copy of the Nissan Qashqai'.
