Ford has revealed the limited-run GT '66 Heritage Edition. The car pays tribute to the company’s Mk2 GT40 race car with which its Le Mans team secured a one-two-three finish in 1966.

The new model will be launched with the 2017 model year GT. Mimicking the look of the 1966 Le Mans winning car, the Heritage Edition’s exterior is painted a colour called Shadow Black and is available in either a gloss or matte finish, along with silver stripes and an exposed carbonfibre package. The car sits on a set of single-piece, satin-gold finish 20-inch wheels complete with black wheel nuts. Meanwhile, the bonnet and the doors sport the race number of the original 1966 winner of Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon.

The interior features carbonfibre seats wrapped in ebony leather with pillowed inserts and plow-through stitching to create a classic look, and there are Ford GT logos on the headrests and steering wheel. The seats and instrument panel have the same satin-gold finish as the car’s wheels, and the seat belts feature a unique blue webbing like the original 1966 racer.

The car’s chassis setup and drivetrain remain unchanged. This means the Heritage Edition is powered by the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine as the regular car.

Each Heritage Edition gets a unique identification plate to signify its build number. The model will only be available with the 2017 GT, which itself is limited to 250 units.

Neat dashboard is typical BMW fare. Orange ambient lighting is very well executed.

Front seats good but not great.

Second row easily the most spacious here.

6.5-inch central screen is easy to navigate through. Top M Sport car gets larger 8.8-inch unit.

X1’s boot is large as is and space can be increased by sliding the rear seat forward

Q3’s dashboard is simple in design but aluminium accents help jazz up the appearance.

Large front seats offer good all-round support.

Rear seat is comfy but is best for two.

Audi’s MMI system is user-friendly but the interface has started looking a bit dated now.

You can store plenty of luggage in the Q3’s large and well-shaped boot

GLA dash has its nice details but the centre screen seems like an afterthought.

Low driving position least SUV-like.

Cabin roomier than it looks but rear squab short.

Merc’s 5.7-inch screen is the smallest here and the low-res graphics don’t help either.

GLA’s spare wheel sits in boot and occupies a lot of usable luggage space.
