Ford will soon give its Classic entry-level sedan a significant price reduction to help it compete more aggressively in the increasingly popular entry-level saloon segment. Reports indicate that prices could be reduced by as much as Rs 1 lakh on certain models, and that the new starting price for the Ford Classic range could be below Rs 5 lakh.

The entry-level sedan segment is currently dominated by aggressively priced sub-four-metre sedans like the Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze, and other recent entrants like the Fiat Linea Classic and Chevrolet Sail have only added to the available options. What’s more, Hyundai and Tata Motors are both planning to launch sub-four-metre entry level saloons of their own very soon, which will only make the segment more congested.

While the new Ford EcoSport compact SUV has seen immense demand, leading to huge waiting periods, many of the other models in the Blue Oval’s stable have seen a sharp drop in sales over the last twelve months, especially the Classic. The Ford Classic sedan is simply the previous-generation Ford Fiesta sold with a different name, and that car originally came to India in 2005. And with last year’s discontinuation of the Hyundai Accent, that makes the Classic one of the oldest cars in the segment. However, despite its age, it still remains one of the most engaging driver’s cars on sale in India.

The price revision of the Ford Classic will come into effect later this month, and it is presently unclear what other changes, if any, will accompany Ford’s repositioning of this model. You can expect the revised Ford Classic range to be priced from around Rs 5 lakh for the basic petrol model to Rs 7.5 lakh for the top diesel variant.
