Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has updated its Uconnect infotainment system for 2016. Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the new fourth-gen system not only provides better responsiveness and greater display resolution than the earlier unit but also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new generation of the Uconnect system offers improved performance through faster start up time, improved capacitive touchscreen responsiveness, greater display resolution and brightness and better processing power along with providing additional functionality via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

While using Apple CarPlay, the Uconnect system allows users to use Apple’s Siri voice control system through the system while Android Auto users can use Google’s voice search function through the unit.

"The Uconnect team is evolving Uconnect and making it even better," said Joni Christensen, head of Uconnect marketing for FCA. "With the launch of the fourth generation of Uconnect systems, we are continuing to minimize the everyday stresses of busy lifestyles by providing drivers with a variety of ways to stay conveniently connected to their vehicles, while making every drive exceptionally informative, entertaining and unique."

At CES 2016, the system was displayed in a Dodge Charger Pursuit police car where it used a larger 12.1-inch display unit in place of the standard 8.4-inch display that will make its way into FCA’s passenger cars, once the system is introduced in production models.
