    Bugatti sells final Veyron

Bugatti has confirmed the sale of its last Veyron to an undisclosed customer in the Middle East. The final Veyron named ‘La Finale’ marks the end of the range that has been in production for 10 years.

Launched in 2005, the Veyron coupé was powered by a 987bhp 8.0-litre W-16 engine, making it one of the fastest production cars in the world. Subsequent models saw this figure go up to 1,184bhp. In 2008, Bugatti launched the Veyron Grand Sport, an open top version of the coupé, followed by the Super Sport in 2010 and Grand Sport Vitesse in 2012.

The car was a marvel of its time, with a claimed top speed of 431kph and a 0-100kph sprint time of 2.5 seconds. The car held its title of the fastest production car in the world, and was only surpassed in 2014 by the Hennessey Venom GT with a top speed of 435kph.

During its 10-year lifespan, Bugatti released several special editions, including an all black Veyron dubbed ‘Black Beauty’ on Bugatti’s 100th birthday. The company then went on to release the ‘Legends’ series - six limited edition models in memory of the people who had shaped the company. The sixth and final model was dedicated to Ettore Bugatti himself.

Bugatti boss Wolfgang Dürheimer said: “The Veyron is unique in many respects, even ten years after its launch. The Veyron is not just a masterpiece of modern automobile design; it is more an automotive piece of art.”

The Veyron name may, however, not be gone for long, as a successor is already under development and due to be unveiled in 2016. The successor is expected to house a heavily-tuned version of the Veyron’s 8.0-litre W-16 engine with power pushed to a claimed 1,497bhp.
