Force Motors has launched the new BS-IV-compliant Gurkha with a range of updates for 2017. Besides the revamped engine, the Gurkha now gets a few cosmetic changes and a new chassis with multi-link coil spring suspension all around. Prices start at Rs 8.45 lakh and go up to Rs 11.48 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The largest change, however, is the retuned version of the older 2.6-litre diesel mill that is now BS-IV compliant. The motor churns out 85hp at 3,200rpm and 230Nm at 1,400-2,400rpm and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

In a bid to expand its range, Force Motors has also introduced two variants. The Xplorer variant is available as a hard-top and a soft-top, three-door or five-door, with capacity to seat five or seven people and permanent four-wheel-drive. The Xpedition trim is a five-door model that can seat up to nine people but only gets rear-wheel drive. Interestingly, the Xplorer variant, at 3,992mm in length, is a sub-four-metre model while the Xpedition is 4,342mm long. The wheelbase of the Xpedition is 2,750mm, 350mm longer than the Xplorer.

The Gurkha has also undergone a few styling changes and gets new front and rear steel bumpers, fatter rubber, new graphics on the body, graphics, clear lens headlamps, a full-length slip-resistant footboard and four colour options – Supreme White, Matt Black, Copper Red and Moonbeam Silver.
