The new BMW X4 is expected to be powered by a range of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

BMW will take the wraps off two new SUVs this year, followed by two more high-performance SUVs from its in-house tuning arm, the M division.

The first one will be the production version of the new BMW X4 SUV which will be officially unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April 2014. The new BMW X4 SUV is to the X3 what the X6 is to the X5 SUV - a more stylish derivative with a coupé-like sloping roof and, subsequently, less practicality. A concept SUV on which the production X4 will be based was shown earlier.

The new BMW X4 is expected to be powered by a range of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW will also offer a variable sports steering system on the new X4 SUV.

Next in line is the second-generation X6 SUV, which will debut at the Moscow motor show in August 2014. More than 2,00,000 examples of the first-generation X6 have found homes globally since it was launched in 2008. The new model is set to build on this success with what insiders claim is a more muscular, sporty and athletic design.

A full-blown BMW X6 M version will be launched at the end of the year, alongside a new X5 M, with more aggressive and sharper styling. They will both use the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine of the current X5 M and X6 M, but with power and torque increased from the current 547bhp and 69.4kgm. Economy and emissions will also be improved.
