BMW has decided to hike prices by up to five percent across its BMW and Mini line-up in India, with effect from January 1, 2015.

The carmaker's current India line-up includes the BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, 3 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series, 7 Series, X1, X3, all of which are locally produced at their plant in Chennai. They also have the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, ActiveHybrid 7, X6, Z4, M3, M4 Coupe, M5 and the M6 Gran Coupe, which are available as Completely Built Units. The 6 Series Individual and the 7 Series Individual can be ordered as CBUs. BMW is also on path to introduce the i8 in 2015. BMW also introduced the Mini brand in India in 2012. Currently, you can buy the 3-door, 5-door, Convertible and Countryman in India.

While BMW hasn't specified a clear reason to hike prices, president, BMW Group India, Philipp von Sahr said, “The success of BMW Group India has always been built on long-term thinking and responsible action. We want to maintain sustainable leadership in the Indian market with a strong brand and an exceptional model range with unbeatable product substance. With the price increase, BMW Group will maintain its premium positioning in the Indian luxury car segment.”

BMW currently has 37 dealerships in the country. They plan to expand its dealership network to 50 by the end of 2015.
