Looking for a seven-seat SUV that is powered by a diesel-automatic combination and have a budget of Rs 35 lakh? Here are your best options.
5. Isuzu MU-X 7/10
The definite value for money proposition in this segment, the refreshed model now gets slightly revised looks and a bit more in terms of equipment. Features include projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, quilt-pattern leather upholstery, a roof-mounted fold down screen, cruise control, a powered driver’s seat, keyless entry and go, six airbags, ESC, traction control, hill-descent control, ABS with EBD and emergency brake assist. The MU-X is powered by a 3.0-litre, turbo-diesel engine putting out 177hp and 390Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. There's a 4x2 and a 4x4 variant on offer as well. However, the older model’s highlights and weaknesses remain – the powerful engine and robust body against a comparitive lack of equipment.
Isuzu MU-X prices:
4x2 Rs 26.27 lakh
4x4 Rs 28.23 lakh
4. Honda CR-V 7/10
Honda has finally given the CR-V something it deserved all along – a diesel engine option. The 1.6-litre motor produces 120hp and 300Nm and is mated to 9-speed automatic gearbox. All-wheel-drive comes as an optional extra. The new CR-V gets features like front, side and curtain airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, automatic LED headlights, electric parking brake, leather upholstery, push-button start, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat. However, the motor is underpowered for an SUV this size. Additionally, the addition of a third row and a higher price point has brought it into a higher segment, where it just does not feel SUV enough compared to rivals.

3. Toyota Fortuner 8/10
There’s no question the Fortuner is capable on and off the road. The Toyota gets seven airbags, ESC, downhill assist control, hill assist control, LED lamps, puddle lamps, leather seats, paddle shifts, cruise control and even park assist. The Fortuner is equipped with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing 177hp and 450Nm of torque, which is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. While it's cabin does feel a bit utilitarian compared to rivals and it misses out on some features, it is typically like a Toyota in terms of reliability, efficiency and usability. The stiffer than acceptable ride quality is also an issue.

The Kodiaq is powered by a solitary 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 150hp and 340Nm of torque. Transmission duties are carried out by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The cabin is plush and the ride quality is definitely a plus point. However, the package is let down by the engine that feels lackluster, the premium you have to pay for it and Skoda’s underdeveloped dealership network.

The SUV gets features like seven airbags, a touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, LED DRLs, parking camera with front and rear sensors, automatic parallel parking system, electrically adjustable front seats, hill descent and hill hold controls, four power outlets and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
