Audi has teased the new Q2, ahead of the car’s world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The revealed image shows the company’s line-up of SUVs parked in terms of size with a reserved spot beside the Q3 hinting at the company’s new small SUV.

Audi acquired the rights to use the Q2 and Q4 names from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles back in September last year. The car was previously called the Q1.

Test mules of the small SUV have revealed styling bits borrowed from the new Q7 but with a smaller interpretation of the grille and front bumper design featuring slim LED headlamps. At the rear, the Q2 sports  an integrated roof-mounted spoiler and a chunky bumper.

Set to be based on VW Group's MQB platform, the new Q2 is expected to be similar to the A3 in terms of length, width and wheelbase. However, the interior could either be based on the A1 hatchback sold in international markets or on the new A4 and Q7 that get the Audi virtual cockpit system.

The Q2 is expected to be powered by a family of three- and four-cylinder diesel units based on VW’s new family of engines paired to a choice of six-speed manual or DSG gearboxes.

A hybrid e-tron variant of the Q2 might be launched further down the line. The model is likely to adapt the powertrain found in the A3 e-tron,  which is a 1.4-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor. The possibility of a sportier variant, likely to be called SQ2, powered by a 2.0-litre 228bhp petrol motor is also reported.

The Audi Q2 is also expected to be a more upmarket offering rather than an entry-level model and is set to rival the likes of the Nissan Juke.
