With the launch of the Audi R&D Centre Asia, the German carmaker intends on strengthening its innovative capabilities across the region. The team at the facility will focus on product customisation, including electronics and connectivity solutions, based on Asia-specific needs. The engineers at the facility will also focus on developing components for more efficient powertrains. The facility will also develop engines, body styles, electronics and batteries.

“The teams will work in close contact with customers in Asia. And they will ensure that valuable ideas and innovations from Asia can be integrated into the early conceptual development phase of our products,” said Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management, Audi AG.

The R&D centre is located in the new Audi China Building in Beijing. It’ll closely co-operate with the development departments of FAW-Volkswagen, a joint venture between First Automobile Works and the VW group.
